Three joggers are running around a circular track. One of them completes one lap in 6 minutes, the second one in 9 minutes, and

the third one in 15 minutes. What time will they arrive at their starting point together if they start at the same time from the same point at 10:00 am and maintain their jogging pace

Answer:

At 11:30 am they will arrive at their starting point together

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

One of them completes one lap in 6 minutes

The second one in 9 minutes

The third one in 15 minutes

step 1

Find the least common multiple (LCM)

6=2*3

9=3²

15=3*5

so

LCM=(3²)*(2)*(5)=90 minutes

step 2

Find the number of laps of each jogger for the LCM

jogger 1

90/6=15 laps

jogger 2

90/9=10 laps

jogger 3

90/15=6 laps

If they start at 10:00 am

then

10:00 am + 90 minutes=11:30 am

How to subtract unlike fractions
topjm [15]
Find the common denominator for both unlike fractions.

EX:   1                        2
         12                      8

The lowest common factor is both fractions is 24.           Multiply both denominators to get 24.

Do not forget to multiply the numerators with the number you used to multiply the denominators together.

You do not have to multiply each side by the same number.

Suppose the mean income of firms in the industry for a year is 95 million dollars with a standard deviation of 5 million dollars
GuDViN [60]

Answer:

Probability that a randomly selected firm will earn less than 100 million dollars is 0.8413.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that the mean income of firms in the industry for a year is 95 million dollars with a standard deviation of 5 million dollars. Also, incomes for the industry are distributed normally.

<em>Let X = incomes for the industry</em>

So, X ~ N(\mu=95,\sigma^{2}=5^{2})

Now, the z score probability distribution is given by;

         Z = \frac{X-\mu}{\sigma} ~ N(0,1)

where, \mu = mean income of firms in the industry = 95 million dollars

            \sigma = standard deviation = 5 million dollars

So, probability that a randomly selected firm will earn less than 100 million dollars is given by = P(X < 100 million dollars)

    P(X < 100) = P( \frac{X-\mu}{\sigma} < \frac{100-95}{5} ) = P(Z < 1) = 0.8413   {using z table]

Therefore, probability that a randomly selected firm will earn less than 100 million dollars is 0.8413.
