Basic argument of the Federalists for ratification <span>of the constitution is that it would give the central government more powers which was essential for the survival of the United States. A stronger central government would improve the economy, foreign relations, and would give the government more power to levy taxes and execute laws, as well as the power to create a strong military without permission from the states.

Arguments against the ratification would be used by ANTI-Federalists, NOT Federalists.

Those arguments against ratification were that the central government would get too powerful and strip the average citizens of their rights. Other problems that were brought forth were the states' representation in the government. Eventually, the Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution and the anti-Federalists were less apposed to it.

We elect senators and representatives for the House. They basically make up what the people who elected them wants, but some are corrupt so they don't really listen to the people. They mainly listen to the people who fund their campaigns. What we do have are the U.S. Constitution and the U.S. Amendments to protect our rights such as forcing the person we elected to do what we want, because if they don't we can "fire" them and elect new ones. In the 1890s, the farmers' alliance evolved into the people's party (or populists), the era's greatest political insurgency. Ide
Naya [18.7K]

The Populist Party wanted to push several issues at the time in the 1890s in the United States.

1. Free Silver--one of their biggest platforms was to change the currency to free silver to make it more affordable for the average person to use, instead of having money backed up by the gold standard.

2. Eight hour workday--They wanted to have workers and laborers be given an eight hour workday to give workers better working conditions than what they currently faced.

3. Income tax--They wanted to have a federal income tax (which later becomes the 16th Amendment) to have different taxes for people based on their income, or how much money they would make.  So essentially, a very wealthy person would have higher taxes than a poor person.

4. Regulation of the railroad--They wanted the government to regulate the railroad instead of the big businesses regulating the railroad and coming up with the prices.  The farmers especially felt as though it was not fair to allow the business owners to set the prices.

The Populist Party was essentially called the People's Party because they wanted to better represent and recognize the common people in government.
