In “Telephone Conversation,”  Wole Soyinka uses the expression  “pressurized good breeding” to suggest that the landlady is trying to hide her racial prejudice.

When she hears that the man she is talking to is black, she is silent for a moment, trying to look for the right words so as not to sound racist, despite clearly being so.
