Video Example EXAMPLE 1 Find the linearization of the function f(x) = x + 1 at a = 3 and use it to approximate the numbers 3.98

and 4.05 . Are these approximations overestimates or underestimates? SOLUTION The derivative of f(x) = (x + 1)1/2 is f '(x) = Correct: Your answer is correct. . and so we have f(3) = 2 Correct: Your answer is correct. and f '(3) = 1/4 Correct: Your answer is correct. . Putting these values into this equation, we see that the linearization is

Answer:

  the linearization is y = 1/4x +5/4

  the linearization will produce <em>overestimates</em>

  the values computed from this linearization are ...

     f(3.98) ≈ 2.245

     f(4.05) ≈ 2.2625

Step-by-step explanation:

Apparently, you have ...

  f(x)=\sqrt{x+1}

from which you have correctly determined that ...

  f'(x)=\dfrac{1}{2\sqrt{x+1}}

so that f(3) = 2 and f'(3) = 1/4. Putting these values into the point-slope form of the equation of a line, we get the linearization ...

  g(x) = (1/4)(x -3) +2

  g(x) = (1/4)x +5/4

__

The values from this linearization will be overestimates, as the curve f(x) is concave downward everywhere. The tangent (linearization) is necessarily above the curve everywhere.

__

At the given values, we find ...

  g(3.98) = 2.245

  g(4.05) = 2.2625

Robin can clean 72 rooms in 6 days how many rooms can robin clean in 9 days
galben [10]

Hello!

Robin can clean 72 rooms in 6 days. How many rooms can Robin clean in 9 days?

We have a proportional magnitude (directly proportional), if we increase the number of days for cleaning, obviously we will have more rooms cleaned, then:

clean rooms __________ days

72 ----------------------------------- 6

y ------------------------------------- 9

\dfrac{72}{y} = \dfrac{6}{9}

multiply the means by the extremes

6*y = 72*9

6\:y = 648

y = \dfrac{648}{6}

\boxed{\boxed{y = 108}}\Longleftarrow(clean\:rooms)\end{array}}\qquad\checkmark

Answer:

108 clean rooms in 9 days

Is 15/35 less than equal then greater than 12/20
Maurinko [17]
Its less than bc if you turn them into decimals, 15/53 would be 0.42 and 12/20 would be 0.60

(1) let "r" denote number of rabbits, "c"  number of chickens

Set up the equations:

r + c = 1000\\4r + 2c = 3150\\\\-2r -2c = -2000\\4r + 2c = 3150\\\\2r = 1150\implies r = 575\implies c = 425

Answer: There are 575 rabbits and 425 chickens

(2) m - number of Mike's stamps, a - number of Andrew's stamps.

Set up equations:

m = 4a\\m-8 = 2(a+8)\\\\4a-8=2a + 16\\2a = 24\implies a = 12\implies m = 48\\

Answer:  Mike has 48 stamps. Andrew has 12 stamps.
