Answer:

It would cut the South off from supplies from Louisiana and Texas.

It would give the North control of the Mississippi

Explanation:

Vicksburg was considered to be “the key,” as U. S. President Abraham Lincoln phrased it, to making the Union gain control of the Mississippi river. Lincoln looked at a map of the Mississippi River and saw that its hairpin turn is in front of Vicksburg, which was sitting high on bluffs above the river, boats traveling in both directions were made vulnerable to artillery fire from the Confederate batteries on the line of the shore and high on the bluffs.

With the eventual fall of Vicksburg to Union troops on July 4, 1863, Confederacy lost its final chance in controling the Mississippi River.

The Control of the Mississippi River during the American Civil War was considered as an economic and psychological factor for either of the North and the South. For years, the river served as an important waterway for farmers in the mid-western to ship their goods to the eastern states by way of the Gulf of Mexico. The farmers, together with politicians and merchants, do not confirm with the idea of the closing of the river as a result of Confederate artillery looming along the banks where the “Father of Waters” flowed through the Confederacy.

For Confederacy, the control of the lower Mississippi River was important to the union of its states. The portion of Louisiana which is west of the river in addition to Texas and Arkansas created the Transmississippi which contained the manpower and material that the remaining part of the southern military machine needed.

Discuss 3 norms or values that sports help to teach children in society. Explain how they help teach these aspects of culture.
Helen [10]
Sports teach respect, teamwork (cooperation), and how to work hard (work ethic).
In order to participate in sports, you have to attend practice and games.  You also have to learn new skills and apply them to the game you are playing.  In order to be successful, you have to be willing to work hard and learn the skills.
You also learn how to  cooperate with others.  You have to know how to work with others in order for the team to succeed.
You also learn respect because you have to follow rules in order to participate in the game.  If you do not follow the rules and act appropriately, then you will not be able to participate in the game.

What effect did a lack of a navy have on American shipping?
11Alexandr11 [23.1K]

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Although there are no options attached, we can say the following.

The effect of a lack of a navy have on American shipping was that it made the United States vulnerable against its enemies and had no ideal response in case of innovation. The lack of a proper navy did not allow the United States to support the transportation of goods and people in case of a conflict. It also made the US dependent on the navy of foreign countries such as Great Britain.

After the Revolutionary War, the US dropped the idea of having a formal navy. After 40 years without it, the end of the War of 1812 made politicians think about having some ships. From 1812 to 1860, the US navy was practically small compared to European superpowers.
