NaOH is a strong base and bicarbonate buffer is made up a weak carbonic acid H₂CO₃ and its conjugate base HCO₃⁻ bicarbonate ion. The hydroxyl ion, OH- reacts with the H⁺ from the bicarbonate to form water.

Dissociation of carbonic acid:

H₂CO₃  → H⁺ + HCO₃⁻

HCO₃⁻ → H⁺ + CO₃²⁻

Dissociation of sodium hydroxide:

NaOH → Na⁺ + OH⁻

Neutralization reaction:

OH⁻ + H⁺ → H₂O

Calculate the density of a block of water measuring 2 cm x 4 cm x 1 cm, with a mass of 5.4
Nastasia [14]

the formula for density is p=m/v

m aka the mass = 5.4; the v aka the volume = 8

so, p=5.4/8

p= 0.675 g/cm^3

*let's just say the mass' unit is gram so the unit for the density is g/cm^3

How many electrons are needed in the outer energy levels of most atoms to be chemically stable?
Tatiana [17]
Most of the elements important in biology need eight electrons in their outermost shell in order to be stable, and this rule of thumb is known as the octet rule. Some atoms can be stable with an octet even though their valence shell is the 3n shell, which can hold up to 18 electrons.
