A gasoline tank for a certain car is designed to hold 15 gallons of gas. Suppose that the actual capacity of a randomly selected

tank has a distribution that is approximately Normal with a mean of 15.0 gallons and a standard deviation of 0.15 gallons. The manufacturer of this gasoline tank considers the largest 2% of these tanks too large to put on the market. How large does a tank have to be to be considered too large

Answer:

Tanks of 15.3081 gallons and larger are considered too large.

Step-by-step explanation:

Problems of normally distributed samples are solved using the z-score formula.

In a set with mean \mu and standard deviation \sigma, the zscore of a measure X is given by:

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

The Z-score measures how many standard deviations the measure is from the mean. After finding the Z-score, we look at the z-score table and find the p-value associated with this z-score. This p-value is the probability that the value of the measure is smaller than X, that is, the percentile of X. Subtracting 1 by the pvalue, we get the probability that the value of the measure is greater than X.

In this problem, we have that:

\mu = 15, \sigma = 0.15

How large does a tank have to be to be considered too large

largest 2%, so at least the 98th percentile.

The 98th percentile is X when Z = 0.98. So it is X when Z = 2.054.

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

2.054 = \frac{X - 15}{0.15}

X - 15 = 2.054*0.15

X = 15.3081

Tanks of 15.3081 gallons and larger are considered too large.

Given the functions j(x) = x2 + 3 and k(x) = x2 − x + 4, which operation results in a 2nd degree polynomial?
GrogVix [38]
Addition is the correct answer.

x^2 is the part where you get the second degree term. If you add x^2+x^2 you get 2x^2. If you subtract x^2-x^2 you get 0. If you multiply x^2*x^2 you get x^4, which is a fourth degree term

K=5/9(F-32) + 273.15. Solve for F. If you have an answer please leave an explanion, but you Don't have to.
Sveta_85 [38]

K = \frac{5}{9}(F - 32) + 273.15

To cancel out the 5/9, you can either multiply everything by the denominator and divide it down, or multiply everything by the reciprocal of the fraction (\frac{9}{5}. Multiplying by the reciprocal is definitely easier if you can use a calculator:

\frac{9}{5}K = (F - 32) + 491.67

Subtract 491.67 from both sides:

\frac{9}{5}K - 491.67 = F - 32

Finish off by adding 32 to both sides:

\frac{9}{5}K - 459.67 = F

Therefore, F = \frac{9}{5}K - 459.67.

Hope this helps! :)

Roberto measured his garden to be 10' x 12.5' he plants vegetables in one half of the garden what is the area of the vegetable g
Lostsunrise [7]
Well, if half of the garden's area is 10' x 12.5' (which is equal to 125 inches^2), then we add 125+125 which gets us 250 inches^2 .
