The sum of two numbers is 59 and the difference is 7. what are the numbers

X+y= 59

X-y=7

Add both equations to solve for x .

X+y= 59

+ X-y=7

__________

2x = 66

Divide both sides by 2

X= 33

Now substitute x answer to solve y in one of the equation.

X+y= 59

33+y= 59

Subtract 33 from both sides

Y= 59-33

Y= 26

So your two numbers is ( 33 & 26)

To check just substitute your two numbers.

X+y= 59

33+26= 59

59=59

X-y=7

33-26=7

7=7

To solve this problem, let's set up a system of equations.  To do this, we can let one of the two unknown numbers be represented by the variable x and the other unknown number be represented by the variable y.  We know that the difference between the two variables is 7 and the sum of the two variables is 59, which allows us to create the two equations below:

x - y = 7

x + y = 59

To solve this system of equations, we are going to use linear combination, which means simply adding the two left sides of the equations together and adding the two right sides of the equations together.  Because the first equation has a -y term on the left side and the second equation has a +y term on the left side, these are going to cancel out, leaving us with:

2x = 66

To solve this equation, we must get the variable x alone on the left side of the equation by dividing both sides of the equation by 33, giving us:

x = 33

To solve for the other number, we must plug this known value for x into one of our original equations, as follows:

x + y = 59

33 + y = 59

To solve for the variable y, we must subtract 33 from both sides of the equation to get the variable y alone.  This operation gives us:

y = 26

Therefore, the two numbers are 33 and 26.

Hope this helps!

The equation Y = mx+b is the slope-intercept form of the equation of a line. What is the equation solved for b?
kvv77 [185]
To isolate b on one side of the equation, all you have to do is subtract mx from both sides, so the answer is
y-mx =b

Dr. Parrett is a sports psychologist for a large Southern university. The provost and chancellor have asked him to examine the r
nikitadnepr [17]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

External validity : it is the extent to which the result of the studies can be generalised in the experimental research.

Given that ,Dr. Parrett is a sports psychologist for a large Southern university. The provost and chancellor have asked him to examine the relationship between athletic performance and academic stress at the university. The provost and chancellor have made it clear to Dr. Parrett that they want a large amount of external validity in the study. He has valid and reliable measures of both athletic performance and academic stress. He knows that he does not have the time or the money to study the entire population of interest.

As he works only for southern university , but he has to generalize the conclusion for the whole sports man., as per the external validity. It does mean that the conclusions & measures made by Dr. Parrett should hold for the universe.

1) Population of interest in his study is the related data of all sportsman in the universe.

2) He needs to concern external validity because the conclusion should not hold for specific location by affecting some extraneous variables. It should be generalised.

3) a) convinience sampme : He can collect the data related to some specific sportsman by the observation & experience as per the convinience as per the time & money consraints to avoid hurdls in future.

b) Simple random sample also he can go for to have right conclusions without replacement as it is having equal probabilities of selection.

c) As he has to draw the conclusions by measures for the whole universe , he can apply clusr sampling also to save time, money as well to have accuracy.• It is useful when: (i) A list of elements of the population is not available but it is easy to obtain a list of clusters. (ii) The cost of obtaining observations increases as the distance that separates the elements.

4) cluster sample will be the best as per the purpose & consraint of the study.

Cluster sampling is less expensive and more quick. It is more economical to observe clusters of units in a population than randomly selected units scattered over throughout the state.

Cluster Sample permits each accumulation of large samples.

The loss of precision per individual case is more than compensated for by the possibility of studying larger samples for the same cost.

Cluster sample may combine the advantages of both random sampling as well as stratified sampling.

Cluster sampling procedure enables to obtain information from one or more areas.

5) They measure concern over their grades is an observational measure.

A running track is1/3 of a kilometre. What is the total distance a runner travels if he goes four times around track
Zarrin [17]
Since the track is 1/3 kilometre all you have to do is multiply 1/3 x 4!

When you do that you get that the runner would travel 4/3 kilometre or 1 & 1/3 kilometre of the track.
