42-6=36
Now we divide this by two to make it equal
36÷2=18
Since John is younger, he is 18 years old
and Matt is 18+6=24 years old..
There you are all done.. ask me if you need any help understanding this!!

Matt is 24 and John is 18. 24 - 18 is 6. And 24 + 18 would equal 42.

Find the equation of the line shown
solniwko [45]

Answer:

y=-\frac{1}{4}x+2

Step-by-step explanation:

We will use the point slope formula: y=mx+b

We will start by finding the slope(m).
The formula for slope is

\frac{y_{2}-y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{1}}

So if we just choose 2 random points on the line:

I choose (0,2) and (4,1), we get:

\frac{1-2}{4-0} = \frac{-1}{4}

That's our slope.

Next we need to find the y-intercept(b). We can find that by looking at the graph. It is where x=0. So in this case y=2 when x=0.

So in point-slope form the equation is:

y=-\frac{1}{4}x+2

1/4m + 3/4m - 3/8(m+1)
sammy [17]
Distribute 3/8 to m and 1 so now the equation should be 1/4m + 3/4m - 3/8m + 3/8

then add 1/4m 3/4 to get m. the equation should now look like m - 3/8m + 3/8

m is 1m but the one is invisible so subtract 3/8 from 1 now the equation should look like 5/8m + 3/8

final answer: 5/8 + 3/8

Write the equation of a line that is parallel to y=1/2x−4y and that passes through the point (9,−6)
lara [203]

Answer:

the desired equation is

y = (1/2)x - 21/2

Step-by-step explanation:

Looks as tho' you may have typed in an extra 'y' here.  I will proceed under the assumption that you meant y = (1/2)x - 4.  This line has a slope of 1/2.

Any line parallel to it also has a slope of m = 1/2.

Start by replacing y, x, m and b in y = mx + b with the knowns:

y = mx + b becomes -6 = (1/2)(9) + b.

Clear this of fractions by multiplying all 3 terms by 2:

-12 = 9 + 2b, or:

-21 = 2b.  Dividing both sides by 2 results in b = -21/2.

Thus, the desired equation is

y = (1/2)x - 21/2
