Monoculture is the raising of crops and livestock to make an entire breed or population have individually identical genes. Monoc

ulture is very productive and efficient because it can yield a huge supply of a single crop, such as corn or soybeans. Monoculture has several negatives to its use. If a disease is contracted by one individual in a population of genetically-identical plants, then the whole population could be wiped out. Other negatives include all BUT ONE of the following points. That is A) increased herbicide and pesticide use. B) monoculture quickly depletes the soil of nutrients. C) a decrease the genetic variation of certain gene pools. D) a decrease in the cost to farmers who rely on monocultures.

Answer:

The correct answer is option D, a decrease in the cost to farmers who rely on mono cultures.

Explanation:

All the options except D, are the disadvantages of monoculture in the following ways

A) increased herbicide and pesticide use – Due to monoculture the nutrients in the soil gets depleted and thus more and more fertilizers are used which attracts more and more pests and to kill the pests more and more herbicides and pesticides are used

B) monoculture quickly depletes the soil of nutrients. – This is so because same crop uses same nutrient and continuous monoculture do not give land sufficient time to replenish its lost nutrients.

C) a decrease the genetic variation of certain gene pools – due to monoculture , probability of cross fertilization becomes nill

D) a decrease in the cost to farmers who rely on monocultures-there is no decrease in cost to farmers as input of fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides increases which enhances the cost.

konstantin123 [22]

Answer:

DNA template sequence:

5' TGACCAAGT 3'

RNA antisense sequence: 3' UGACCAAGU 5'

>>> RNA sense sequence (transcript) : UGAACCAGU

Explanation:

In the DNA molecule, four types of nitrogenous bases are found: cytosine (C), and guanine (G), adenine (A) and thymine (T). In DNA the bases pair up with each other in the following ways: A pairs with T by two hydrogen bonds, while C pairs with G by three hydrogen bonds. In RNA (i.e., transcript sequence), T is replaced by uracil (U). Moreover, the RNA nucleotide sequence is read in the direction 5' to 3'.

saveliy_v [14]
Flu vaccines need to be revised and changed every year because the flu virus constantly mutates. Flu viruses can change in two ways: drift or shift. Antigenic drift occurs when genes of the virus slowly change during replication until the immune system no longer recognizes it. On the other hand, antigenic shift occurs when a major change in the virus happens. This usually leads to a totally different kind of virus. This is what happened during the H1N1 scare in 2009.

DNA viruses like mumps are less prone to mutation due to the presence of DNA polymerase. RNA viruses are more prone to mutation because they undergo reverse transcription to simulate the role of DNA.
