An ode is a lyrical poem that is written in order to praise a person, an event or a thing. Odes originated in Ancient Greece and they were usually accompanied by music. The main types of odes are Pindaric, Horatian and irregular ones.
The main way in which these types of odes differ is that Pindaric odes follow a three-part structure, while Horatian odes follow a pattern of usually two-line or four-line stanzas. Irregular odes do not depend on a fixed structure in the way the other types of odes do.
