Answer:

It is currently believed that the process begins as a result of damage to the endothelium. The first recognizable change is the appearance of fatty streaks, gray-white areas that protrude into the lumen of the artery. More advanced lesions are called fibroatheroma.

Explanation:

The process of atherosclerosis is progressive and is responsible for coronary artery disease. Atherosclerosis occurs due to formation of plague in arteries and this plague is composed of cholesterol, fat, calcium, minerals and toxic substances. The atherosclerotic plague deposition starts damaging the inner lining of arteries known as endothelium. the changes that occur with time as a result of plague deposition include fatty streaks appearing in the tunica intima  whereby, this grey white fatty matter deposits into the lumen making it worse. Hence, advanced lesions are formed known as fibrous atheroma causing myocardial infarction.

How do surgical wounds usually heal?
yaroslaw [1]

Primary intention-  wound healing with skin edges that are approximated, risk of infection is low, healing occurs quickly with minimal scar formation as long as infection and secondary breakdown is prevented (similar to a surgical wound)   Most common = Acute wounds; minimal tissue loss = surgical wounds and superficial partial thickness (abrasions/blisters)

Secondary Intention  This type of healing is in wounds with extensive tissue loss/infection & wounds in which the edges cannot be approximated (closed).  Would is left open and granulation tissue gradually fills in the deficit. Susceptible to infection. Wet to dry dressings. Ex: Pressure Ulcer  Associated w/ pathology = diabetes, ischemia, pressure damage in inflammation  (Neuropathic, arterial, venous, full thickness, chronic inflammation)  Require ongoing wound care - larger scares
