D + 3r = 15
d = r + 3

r + 3 + 3r = 15
4r + 3 = 15
4r = 15 - 3
4r = 12
r = 12/4
r = 3 ....he bought 3 roses, at $ 3 per rose = $ 9 <==

d = r + 3
d = 3 + 3
d = 6....he bought 6 daisies, at $ 1 per daisy = $ 6

Brad wants to buy flowers for his friend with $15. The daisies are $1 each and the roses are $3 each. He buys 3 more daisies than roses how much did the roses cost?
-daisies=x-      -roses=y-

x+y=15

the sentence how he buys 3 more daisies than roses so...
(y=x-3)
you then plug in the value of y in the equation to have only one variable...
x+ 3(x-3)=15
you then multiply 3 to the parenthesis...
x+3x-9=15
then add 9 on both sides...
4x=24
and then divide 4 on both sides...
x=6

if you plug the value of x(daisies) in the equation...
6+y=15
you subtract 6 on both sides and get...
y=9

you can also get the answer by solving for y with x...
y=3(x-3)
(x=6)
plug in x...
y=3(6-3)
y=3(3)
y=9
Answer: the roses cost $9

sally is on a scavenger hunt. a clue tells her to walk 100 steps due south from the starting point and then walk west when she g
Sophie [7]

Answer:

She should take 112 steps west

Step-by-step explanation:

* Lets explain the relation between the four directions

- North and South on the same line by in opposite directions

- East and West on the same line by in opposite directions

- East and West are perpendicular to the North and South

* Now lets study the situation i the problem

- Sally 100 steps due to South from the starting point

- Then she walk West when she gets the next clue

- The distance between her starting point and ending point is 150 steps

∵ The South is perpendicular to the West

- Lets consider her trip is a right angle triangle ABC, where AB

 her steps South and BC her steps West and AC the distance

 between her starting point and ending point

∵ AB = 100

∵ AC = 150

∵ m∠B = 90°

- By using Pythagoras theorem

∵ BC = √(AC² - AB²)

∴ BC = √(150² - 100²) = 50√5 = 111.8 steps

* She should take 112 steps west

The high for a winter day in Sitka,
m_a_m_a [10]

Answer:

The maximum temperature will be -10°C, then if T represents the temperature, we can write this as:

T ≤ -10°C

And the minimum temperature will be -25°C, then we must have that:

T ≥ -25°C

if we use both conditions, we will have:

-25°C ≤ T ≤ -10°C

We can write this range:

[-25°C, -10°C]

Where the [] symbols mean that the extremes are possible temperatures.

The length of the range will be:

-10°C - 25°C = 15°C.
