The bombing was a way to get the Japanese to surrender, to end world war 2 in the pacific theater. Because they weren't seen as the bigger threat, Europe was most countries put their efforts toward ending the European theater. Once they got the European theater out of the way, they moved all efforts towards the Pacific theater. The fighting was different than how it was in Europe, there was a lot of island hopping to get control of the land that the Japanese took over
