Why do some experts argue that a paid, volunteer fighting force is actually not more expensive than maintaining the fighting for
SCORPION-xisa [38]

The reason why some experts argue for paid volunteer armies is that the short enlistment periods of draftees actually cost the military more in training and turnover.

Why is a volunteer standing army cheaper than drafting?

When drafts are done, the new recruits will have to be trained. This will cost the nation more and is therefore more expensive.

A paid volunteer army on the other hand, is already trained and so there will be no need to keep embarking on new training which makes it cheaper.
