One Way:
We can change the mixed number to a decimal for comparing.

1\frac{1}{4} m = \frac{5}{4} m = 1.25 m

1.4 m     >    1.25 m
Darren   >     Luke

Darren's jump was higher by (1.4-1.25) 0.15 m

Or another way change the decimal to a fraction and the mixed to an improper fraction too.

1\frac{1}{4} = \frac{5}{4} (Luke)
1.4 = \frac{7}{5}                               (Darren)
We need a common denominator to compare
\frac{5*5}{4*5}       (Luke)
\frac{7*4}{5*4}       (Darren)
\frac{25}{20}          (Luke)
\frac{28}{20}          (Darren)

\frac{28}{20}  >   \frac{25}{20}
        Darren           >            Luke

By:
\frac{28}{20} - \frac{25}{20} = \frac{3}{20}
Which is also by 0.15 m
Darren jumps higher and by 0.15 m

A manufacturing plant earned $80 per man hour of labor when it opened. Each year, the plant earns an additional 5% per man hour.
Mekhanik [1.2K]

Answer:

The amount that plant earns per man hour after (t) years it open is           $80 (1.05)^{\textrm t} .

Step-by-step explanation:

Given as :

The earning of  manufacturing plant when it opened = $ 80 per man hour

The rate of plant earning per man hour  = 5 %

Let The earning of plant after t years = A( t )

So,

The earning of plant after t years = initial earning × (1+ \dfrac{\textrm rate}{100})^{\textrm Time}

Or, A(t) = $ 80 × (1+ \dfrac{\textrm 5}{100})^{\textrm t}

or, A(t) = $ 80 × (1.05)^{\textrm t}

Hence The amount that plant earns per man hour after (t) years it open is   $80 (1.05)^{\textrm t} . Answer

The perimeter of a regular octagon is 24a + 48 inches.(a) write an expression for the length of any one side of the octagon. The
Lubov Fominskaja [6]

Answer:

3a+6

Step-by-step explanation:

3a+6 = 24a+48 divided by 8 (there are 8 sides in an octagon)

covert 24a +48 inches into feet

2a+4 feet = 18 feet

subtract 4 from both sides

2a = 14

divided 2 from both sides

a = 7

covert 3a+6 inches into feet

0.25a +0,5

0.25(7)+0.5

= 2.25

verify your answer

2.25 x 8 = 18
