x^2+2x+2=0

This does not factor without imaginary roots, so putting it into the quadratic formula looks like this:

x=\frac{-2+/-\sqrt{4-4(1)(2)} }{2}

which simplifies to

x=\frac{-2+/-\sqrt{-4} }{2}

The square root of -4 simplifies to 2i, so

x=\frac{-2+/-2i}{2}

which reduces to

x = -1 + i and

x = -1 - i
