In the lab on Trophic Interactions you were looking at behavior of mosquito larvae. The question being asked was: Does prey beha

vior change in the presence of a predator? What would be an appropriate null hypothesis for this experiment? Recall in Treatments 2 and 3, a predator was added to the mosquito tanks.

Answer:

Null hypothesis: the behavior of mosquito larvae doesn't change in the presence/absence of predators added to the tanks in Treatments 2 and 3.

Explanation:

In statistics, the null hypothesis states that there are no differences between the two variables tested in the experiment, while the alternative hypothesis uses the experimental data in order to reject the null hypothesis. In this case, the alternative hypothesis will use the data from treatments 2 and 3 to confirm that predators can modify the behavior of mosquito larvae.

The highlighted structure separates the oocyte from the externally located ________. zona pellucida primary follicle corona radi
Naya [18.7K]

Answer:

Granulosa cells

Explanation:

Foliculogenesis is a dynamic and complex process through which the follicle goes through many stages of development in a short period (approximately 60 days in humans and some chimpanzees).

The stages classification is based on morphological changes such as follicular size or diameter, the number of follicular cell layers, etcetera. These classifications might vary among authors but could be denominated as:

 • Primordial follicle
 • Primary follicle
 • Secondary follicle and
 • De Graaf follicles (This is the one shown in the image)

Through each stage, there are certain modifications in the oocyte, follicular cells, and connective tissue. As the oocyte grows, the follicular cells might reach a size twice or three times bigger than the ones of the primordial follicles. Their shape also changes and they adopt an aspect of stratified epithelium. Their cytoplasm gets a granulous aspect, after what these cells receive the name of granulous cells. The De Graaf follicle characterizes for having a space named follicular antro that displaces the oocyte to one of the sides.

The oocyte at this point gets surrounded by zona pellucida and corona radiata .

The follicular antro (The highlighted structure) separates the oocyte from the externally located granulosa cells or follicular cells.

What protein is responsible for the initial step in unwinding the DNA helix during replication of the bacterial chromosome?
maw [93]

Answer:

Proteins play a fundamental role for life and are the most versatile and diverse biomolecules. They are essential for the growth of the organism and perform a huge amount of different functions.

The passage of DNA to proteins begins with the step of transforming genetic information into an intermediary between DNA and protein. This intermediary is called messenger RNA (mRNA). The difference between DNA and mRNA is that the second corresponds to a very small fraction of all DNA, consists of a single chain (it is no longer a “zipper” but a strand), and that Thymine (T) is replaced by the Uracil (U). This fraction corresponds to the stretch of DNA that contains the sequence necessary to ultimately synthesize the protein.
