In "Exhalation," why had no other anatomist tried a brain dissection before the narrator's attempt?
Leni [432]
No other anatomist tried a brain dissection before the narrator's attempt because people's brains did not have any problems back then. When the computing power of the people's brains started slowing down, it was then that the scientist decided to dissect the brain to investigate the reason why this was happening.

Is "writing" a gerund?
babunello [35]
Hello!

I believe a gerund is a "ing" word taking place as a noun. We can't be 100% sure, because it is not used in a sentence, it depends on how you use it in the sentence if it is a gerund or not. Overall, the word "writing" is not a gerund.

Hope this helps! ☺♥

When the teacher entered to class we -———(finish /finished /had finished ) our work
Airida [17]

When the teacher entered the class, we had finished our work.

Therefore, C - Had Finished is the correct answer.

Using the right Tense

The sentence above has two events. They are:

 • Finishing Homework
 • The teacher entering the class.

Notice that both occurred in the past. The rule of proper use of verbs states that where both events have occurred, and one before the other, the proper tense to use is the past perfect tense.

See the link below for more about Past Perfect Tense:
