Answer:

x = 40 degrees

Step-by-step explanation:

There are heaps of different ways to do this, but this is how i got the answer. I think you'll find it a lot easier if you annotate the diagram as you go; at least that's what i did :)

So to figure out x, we need to find the two other angles in the big triangle, angle ADC and DCB. Since we know that all 3 angles in ANY triangle ALWAYS add up to 180 degrees, we'll be able to solve for x if we know these 2 angles.

To find angle ADC:

- we were told what ADB is and what BDC is. if you add these two values, you'll get ADC.

- so, 20 + 40 = 60 degrees.

So, now we know that ADC = 60 degrees.

To find angle DCB:

- we know that triangle DCB is an isoceles (because of the tow little lines on lines BD and CD)

- this means that angles DBC and DCB are exactly the same

- now, we know that all the angles in this little isoceles add up to 180 degrees as well.

- we know that angle BDC is 20 degrees.

- If we do 180 - 20, we get 160 degrees.

- now we know that the sum of angles DBC and DCB are 160 degrees.

- since both angles are the same, we can just divide it by 2 and we get that DCB is 80 degrees.

So, now we know that the second angle DCB in the big triangle is 80 degrees.

To find x:

All we have to do is 180 - ADC - DCB

= 180 - 60 - 80

= 40 degrees

So, x=40 degrees

Sorry if that was really long and confusing. Hope it helped a little :)

at 1:30 in the afternoon an old freight train and a new dart express train pull out of the new garland station going in opposite
nydimaria [60]

Solution: The speed of old freight train is 0.5 miles per minute and the speed of new dart express train is 1.5 miles per minute.

Explanation:

Let the speed of old freight train is x miles per minute and the speed of new dart express train is y miles per minute.

It is given that the speed of the dart express train is three times faster than the freight train. So, it can be written as,

3x=y ....(1)

The trains are moving towards the opposite directions, therefore the distance between them is increased at the speed of (x+y) miles per minute.

Distance=Speed\times Time

The distance between both train in 15 minutes is represented by 15(x+y).

According to the given information the distance between trains is 30 miles in 15 minutes.

15(x+y)=30

x+y=2

Use equation (1) and put y=3x

x+3x=2

4x=2

x=0.5

Put this value in equation (1), to find the value of y.

y=3(0.5)

y=1.5

Therefore, the The speed of old freight train is 0.5 miles per minute and the speed of new dart express train is 1.5 miles per minute.

15 POINTS!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!
Find the value of a.
A) 3
B) 4
C) 6
D) 9
abruzzese [7]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The legs and hypotnuse of a triangle can easily be solved by using

A^{2} +B^{2} =C^{2}

with this in mind we can plug in the legs and hypotenuse of the triangle to solve for the missing leg, A.

A^{2} =C^{2} -B^{2} \\A = \sqrt{(5^{2} )-(4^{2}) } \\A=\sqrt{9} \\A=3

Hope this helps,

H.M.
