Why is the cell cycle an important process?

Biology

The cell cycle is necessary for a cell to divide (by mitosis) without that we would never have grown from a single cell (zygote) since that zygote cannot divide without cell cycle. It is also necessary for reproduction (producing sperm or eggs [gametes]), for healing broken tissue growth and development.

The body actually have ways of interrupting the cell cycle in cells that are malfunctioning, it is called programmed cell death (aka apoptosis). This helps stop a lot of cancerous cells before they can become malignant.

The cell cycle is important because if DNA is replicating wrongly or not how it should be, then this is picked up at different checkpoints in the cell cycle and the process is stopped

Which pair is incorrectly matching polymer-monomer? nucleic acids - nucleotides proteins - amino acids lipids - monosaccharides
Andrew [12]

The pair that incorrectly matches polymer-monomer is lipids-monosaccharides (option C).

What is a monomer?

A monomer is a small molecule which can be covalently bonded to other monomers to form a polymer.

A polymer, on the other hand, is a large molecule made up of a chain of many monomeric units, formed by chemically bonding together.

The following are the monomer-polymer combination we have in nature;

 • Carbohydrates - simple sugar/monosaccharide
 • Protein - amino acid
 • Lipids - fatty acid
 • Nucleic acid - nucleotide

Therefore, the pair that incorrectly matches polymer-monomer is lipids-monosaccharides.

Do you think it is safe for animal's genes to be tampered with? What about humans? If
Umnica [9.8K]
I wouldn’t genetically engineer my child as this has a lot of ethical concerns as certain people believe that we are created in the image of God so altering that would be deemed as wrong and sinful. Also this may have later health concerns for the child which hasn’t yet been tested so can not be sure if having designer babies is safe or not.
