$10=\sqrt((-6-2)^2 + (x-4)^2))$

This implies that

$10=\sqrt((-8)^2 + (x-4)^2))$

$10=\sqrt(64 + (x-4)^2))$

Squaring both sides

$100=64 + (x-4)^2$

$100-64=(x-4)^2$

$36=(x-4)^2$

Taking square root of both sides gives

$\sqrt(36)=(x-4)$

$6=(x-4)$

$6+4=x$
