what happens to a dream deferred? How does an individual respond when they have lost all hope for their dreams? Do they lash out
MrRa [10]

This question is incomplete, here´s the complete question.

Read the play by Lorraine Hansberry, A Raisin in the Sun.

What happens to a dream deferred? How does an individual respond when they have lost all hope for their dreams?

Do they lash out and then submit (Walter)?

Do they refuse to let the dream die despite the interminable waiting (Mama)?

Do they debase themselves by victimizing others (Willie)?

Answer:

The main theme in A Raisin in the Sun is about dreams that get deferred due to oppressive circumstances. The pursuit of dreams can make people choose different paths and means to obtain them.

Explanation:

When the Youngers, an African-American family, get $10,000 as insurance from the late Mr. Younger, the family members disagree on how to use that money because they all have different dreams.

Mama´s dream is to buy a house for the family. Her son, Walter Lee, wants to use the money to invest in a liquor store, dreaming of being able to support his family.

Mama refuses to let her dream die, so she puts a down payment to buy a house for the family.

At first, Walter lashes out by using the rest of the money for his investment project, but eventually accepts Mama´s idea is the best for the family.

Before that, he actually gets robbed by his friend Willy Harris, who basically gets corrupted by greed at the cost of victimizing the Youngers.
