The correct answer is B) Vicksburg was the last Confederate stronghold on the Mississippi River and its capture would cut the South in two.

The capture of Vicksburg became an important objective for the North because  Vicksburg was the last Confederate stronghold on the Mississippi River and its capture would cut the South in two.

That is why this victory represented a great win for the Union Army and a devastating loss for the Confederate troops.

Ulysses Grant, a renowned general for the Union army, was the great winner of the Siege of Vicksburg that divided the Confederacy.

After four months of intense fighting, the Union captured Vicksburg on July 4, 1863.

Which of the following statements best expresses a reason for European imperialism in the 1800s?
sasho [114]

Answer:

B.

European nations wanted to control lands that had raw materials for industry and manufacturing.

Explanation:

In the wake of the industrial revolution, the international order changed. Nations needed raw materials and markets, and they needed to secure them before other nations did. That also shaped the form of imperialism used in the 1800s. Before, the European countries tried to settle in the conquered territories and work the land. But in 1800, nations established outposts and an extractive economy that sought to obtain the raw materials as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

Nations also needed to control markets for their goods, which led to wars against large Empires like China, which was a huge potential market. The British set an example for other Nations by imposing trade treaties with the use of warships.

Kind of sounds like you're talking about lobbyists? They basically influence government figures through favors, usually endorsements and cash. They influence decisions and what the US does abroad. A big reason why we support Saudi Arabia so much, because we do business with them.
