Gregor Mendel was a Czech scientist and Augustinian friar who is considered the father of genetics. His work was focused on the mechanisms which influenced the appearance of certain traits in generations of plants. He conducted many experiments using pea plants. He concluded that there are certain invisible factors (genes) which can determine the traits of an organism. He also created the Mendelian laws of inheritance, which describe how traits are passed from one generation to the next.
