How to write a domain

Mathematics

The domain are all valid values for x (the independent variable) that can be used in an equation.

We have to look at any potential values of x which won't work. Easily put: in algebra, just look for values of x which cause either division by zero, or the square root of negative numbers.

A couple of examples:
y=2x+4
You can insert any negative or positive value, or zero, for x and get a valid equation. Therefore the domain is the set of all real numbers. Answers are usually written as:
x: {R}, or simply 'all real numbers'.

what about y=2/(x-1)
In this equation, x appears in the denominator. If x-1=0, then division by zero would occur.
Solve: x-1≠0
x≠1
In set notation:
x: (-∞,1)∪(1,∞)
Parentheses are next to the 1, as the domain comes up to 1, but does not include 1.
Read left to right, the domain is "negative infinity to 1, exclusive, in union with 1 to positive infinity"

Question #2:
cluponka [151]

Answer:

\$17.59\ per\ hour

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

The Susan's hourly wage, must be equal at least to the sum of her monthly household expenses divided by the number of hours worked at month

Remember that

1\ year=52\ weeks\\1\ year=12\ months

She works 40 hours  per week

so

40(52)=2,080\ hours\ per\ year

2,080/12=\frac{520}{3}\ hours\ per\ month

<em>Find out the monthly household expenses</em>

Sum all the expenses

Rent+ Monthly Bills+Entertainment and Food+Savings

substitute the values

\$875+\$1,276+\$648+\$250=\$3,049

Find out the hourly wage

\$3,049:\frac{520}{3}\ hours=\$17.59\ per\ hour

Put in simplest form 8/15 × 5/6
algol13
8/15 x 5/6
•multiply across the numerator and denominator.

= 40/90
• then find a common factor that will go into both the numerator and denominator equally.

Common factor: 5

= 8/18
•there is another common factor, which is 2

Simplified:

=4/9

The equation of a parabola is given. y=34x2−6x+15
SVETLANKA909090 [29]
The x coordinate of the vertex = -b/2a  = -(-6) / 2*34  = 0.08824

y coordinate = 34(0.08824^2 - 6(0.08824) + 15 =  14.735

so its (0.088, 14.735)     correct to 3 decimal places
