What he means by this is, He is trying to convince Odysseus to leave the lost men behind and get off Circe's island before it is too late.

First off, answer "He is trying to convince the other men to help him kill a cow" is absolutely WRONG. I laughed when I read it, lol.

All of the other answers don't make sense :)
