196÷3 = 65.333 around is 65
65-3=62
65+4=69

Ben worked 65 hrs but jerry worked 3 Less then worked 62 hrs
and Chris 4 hrs more , then worked 69 hrs.

Ben =65 hrs
Jerry =62 hrs
Chris =69 hrs

total = 196 hrs together.

On the right side, give a reason to justify each step made on the left
cestrela7 [59]

Given that: step 1

3x+12=8x-18

step 2: subtract 3x both side

\begin{gathered} 3x+12-3x=8x-3x-18 \\ 12=5x-18 \end{gathered}

Step 3: Add 18 both side:

\begin{gathered} 12+18=5x-18+18 \\ 30=5x \end{gathered}

Step 4: divide both side by 5

\begin{gathered} \frac{30}{5}=\frac{5x}{5} \\ 6=x \end{gathered}

Step:6 The value of x is:

x=6

Help me please. Find the measures of CAD and DAE
VladimirAG [237]

well, we know the "sum" of both angles is 90°, notice the rectangle in the corner, so we can say that the angles are simply complementary angles, thus

\left( \cfrac{3}{2}x+20 \right)+2x=90\implies \stackrel{\textit{multiplying both sides by }\stackrel{LCD}{2}}{2\left( \cfrac{3}{2}x+20 + 2x \right)=2(90)} \\\\\\ 3x+40+4x=180\implies 7x+40=180\implies 7x=140\implies x=\cfrac{140}{7} \\\\\\ x = 20~\hfill \stackrel{\measuredangle CAD}{\cfrac{3}{2}20+20\implies 50}\qquad\qquad \stackrel{\measuredangle DAE}{2(20)\implies 40}

Try to sketch by hand the curve of intersection of the parabolic cylinder y = x2 and the top half of the ellipsoid x2 + 7y2 + 7z
vovikov84 [41]

Plug y=x^2 into the equation of the ellipsoid:

x^2+7(x^2)^2+7z^2=49

Complete the square:

7x^4+x^2=7\left(x^4+\dfrac{x^2}7+\dfrac1{14^2}-\dfrac1{14^2}\right)=7\left(x^2+\dfrac1{14}\right)^2+\dfrac1{28}

Then the intersection is such that

7\left(x^2+\dfrac1{14}\right)^2+7z^2=\dfrac{1371}{28}

\left(x^2+\dfrac1{14}\right)^2+z^2=\dfrac{1371}{196}

which resembles the equation of a circle, and suggests a parameterization is polar-like coordinates. Let

x(t)^2+\dfrac1{14}=\sqrt{\dfrac{1371}{196}}\cos t\implies x(t)=\pm\sqrt{\sqrt{\dfrac{1371}{196}}\cos t-\dfrac1{14}}

y(t)=x(t)^2=\sqrt{\dfrac{1371}{196}}\cos t-\dfrac1{14}

z=\sqrt{\dfrac{1371}{196}}\sin t

(Attached is a plot of the two surfaces and the intersection; red for the positive root x(t), blue for the negative)
