Full question:

For each multiplication expression, sketch an area model. Label the dimensions and the area of each part. Then write an equation showing that the area as a product equals the area as a sum. a. (x+1)(x+2), b. 3(2x+5), c. (2x-3)(x+2), d. (x-1)(y-1), e. -2y(y+3), f. (-x+1)(3x+y-4)

Answer and explanation:

a. (x+1)(x+2)= x×x+x×2+1×x+1×2

The dimensions (length and width) is x+1 and x+2

b. 3(2x+5) = 3×2x+3×5

The dimensions is 3 and 2x+5

c. (2x-3)(x+2)= 2x×x+2x×2-3×x-3×+2

The dimensions are 2x-3 and x+2

d. (x-1)(y-1)= x×y+x×-1-1×y-1×-1

Dimensions are x-1 and y-1

e. -2y(y+3)= -2y×y-2y×3

Dimensions are -2y and y+3

f. (-x+1)(3x+y-4)= -x×3x-x×y-x×-4+1×3x+1×y+1×-4

Dimensions are -x+1 and 3x+y-4

Patricia serves the volleyball to Amy with an upward velocity of 17.5ft/s. The ball is 5 feet above the ground when she strikes
Lena [83]

t = 1.33 sec

Solution:

Given data:

Velocity (v_0) = 17.5 ft/s

Height (h_0) = 5 ft

The height can be modeled by a quadratic equation

h(t)=-16t^2+v_0t+h_0

where h is the height and t is the time

h(t)=-16t^2+17.5t+5

-16t^2+17.5t+5=0

a = –16, b = 17.5, c = 5

It looks like a quadratic equation. we can solve it by quadratic formula,

$\frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^{2}-4 a c}}{2 a}

$\Rightarrow t=\frac{-17.5 \pm \sqrt{(-17.5)^{2}-4\times (-16)(5)}}{2 (-16)}

$\Rightarrow t= \frac{-17.5 \pm \sqrt{306.25+ 320}}{-32}

$\Rightarrow t= \frac{-17.5 \pm 25.025}{-32}

$\Rightarrow t= \frac{-17.5 - 25.025}{-32}, \ t= \frac{-17.5 + 25.025}{-32}

$\Rightarrow t= 1.33, \ t= -0.24

Time cannot be in negative. So neglect t = –0.235.

t = 1.33 sec

Hence Amy have to react  1.33 sec before the volleyball hits the ground.

-1/5 plus 7/10 <br><br> Whats the answer ??/
lubasha [3.4K]

Answer:

Hi Friend!

The Correct Answer is 1/2

Step-by-step explanation:

The fractions have unlike denominators. First, find the Least Common Denominator and rewrite the fractions with the common denominator.

LCD(-1/5, 7/10) = 10

Multiply both the numerator and denominator of each fraction by the number that makes its denominator equal the LCD. This is basically multiplying each fraction by 1.
