This is my answer:

The author suggests that prosperity has been brought to China by having the needs necessary for a growth economy. In the paragraph above, it states “For the last several years, the country has had fertile soil, and the people have had houses in which to live, enough fish and turtles to eat, and enough cloth and silk to make clothes.” This sentence help by explaining that the people had homes, and were stable. This means more tax for the government, and that leads to economic growth.

Define nationalism and imperialism and explain how one has affected the other in history by using an example from Japanese histo
QveST [7]

Nationalism is an ideology which affects social, political and economic political systems. It is based on the protection of sovereignty of the country and maintaining a national identity free of foreign intervention. It defends and promotes national interest over foreign relations.

Imperialism is an ideology or practice that promotes expansion and dominion over other countries, aquiring new territories and colonies, and exercising control over them.

For example, during World War II, the Japanese government promoted a nationalistic ideology amongst the people to create unity against foreign invasion and colonization. Fear was used to generate nationalism, because they acted in response to foreign threats. Nationalism affects Imperialism because it reinforces the idea of one country being better than the other. Fear of external intervention leads to the idea the "offence is the best defense": in order to protect our nation, we have to expand our territory. It can be said that nationalism becomes an excuse for imperialism.

4. What do you predict are the dangers of appeasement?
gavmur [86]
Good example of appeasement being used is the Munich Conference (1938), and the Potsdam Conference (1945). Many see appeasement as surrendering to another country’s wishes, which can make a nation and its leader look weak. It’s a temporary measure taken to stop a war, but many times is unsuccessful in the long run. Leaders such as Neville Chamberlain and FDR used this strategy with Hitler and Stalin, who both took advantage of what they had been given. Appeasement can put a country in a weak position due to them losing territory, resources, etc. It’s a very diplomatic policy, but usually only curbs a threat for a short time. Hope this helped a little! :)
