(x+4)(x+3)=0 \\
x+4=0 \ \lor \ x+3=0 \\
x=-4 \ \lor \ x=-3 \\ \\
-4 < -3 \\ \\
\hbox{the larger root} \Rightarrow \boxed{ -3}

Break the problem down into (x+4)=0 and (x+3)=0
X+4=0 so you subtract 4 from each side giving you x=-4
X+3=0 subtracting 3 from each side giving you x=-3
-3 is larger than -4 because when dealing with negative numbers, you want to be as close to one because that means the number is bigger.
Therefore -3 is the larger root

The length of a rectangle is increasing at a rate of 6 cm/s and its width is increasing at a rate of 5 cm/s. When the length is
Rudiy27

Answer:

Area of the rectangle is increasing with the rate of 84 cm/s.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let l represents the length, w represents width, t represents time ( in seconds ) and A represents the area of the triangle,

Given,

\frac{dl}{dt}=6\text{ cm per second}

\frac{dw}{dt}=5\text{ cm per second}

Also, l = 12 cm and w = 4 cm,

We know that,

A = l × w,

Differentiating with respect to t,

\frac{dA}{dt}=\frac{d}{dt}(l\times w)

=l\times \frac{dw}{dt}+w\times \frac{dl}{dt}

By substituting the values,

\frac{dA}{dt}=12\times 5+4\times 6

=60+24

=84

Hence, the area of the rectangle is increasing with the rate of 84 cm/s.

X+5(x-1)=(x-3)4-1 anyone?
Troyanec [42]
Hi there!

First of all simplify x+5(x-1)=(x-3)4-1.
This would make 6x-5=4x-13.

Next, subtract 4x from both sides.
6x-5-4x=4x-13-4x
2x-5=-13

Then add 5 to both sides.
2x-5+5=-13+5
2x=-8

Finally divide by 2 on both sides.
2x/2=-8/2
x=-4

Your answer is -4.

Hope this helped!
