The original distance is:

D = (2 + 3/4) miles.

But Mark only covers 2/3 of that distance, then we have:

d = (2/3)*D = (2/3)*(2 + 3/4) miles = (4/3 + 2/4) miles

d = (4/3 + 1/2) miles = (8/6 + 3/6) miles = (1 + 5/6) miles

Mark is at (1 + 5/6) miles of his house.
