John went to the store to buy trail mix for a hike. He could buy 3 pounds of packages for $2.49 or 8 pounds of packages for $6.49. Which size package was less expensive?

First what I did was find how much each pound would cost per different package.

So starting off with the 3 pound package. I did 2.49 divided by 3 to find out how much each pound would weigh.

2.49 / 3 = 0 . 83

So each pound in the 3 pounded package would cost $0.83.

Now to see how much the 8 pound package would cost. Just like the 3 pound package I had to find how much each pound would weigh. So I divided 6.49 by 8.

6.49 / 8 = 0.81125

So looking at the results the 3 pound package would be the best option. You are getting more for less.
