- William Morris (1834-1896), a British literary figure and designer who founded the British Arts and Crafts Movement, is best known for his "Seaweed Wallpaper". These were designed for Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Company, the firm he started with his partners in 1861, and afterwards for Morris & Company. He designed fifty different block-printed wallpapers, each with elaborate, stylized patterns inspired by nature, especially British native flowers and flora.
