Why was otto von bismarck nicknamed the blood and iron chancellor?
Papessa [141]

Answer:

He gained that nickname because of this strong style of management, that combined keeping a tight grip on internal affairs in the country, maintaining a strong position in foreign policy, and making use of military force when necessary.

This is why he managed not only to unify Germany, but to expand the German colonial empire (even when he was a not particularly keen on colonialism), and defeat France in the Franco-Prussian War. He also installed the first modern welfare state of any country.

What attitude did white soldiers have about the 54th? Did these attitudes change and why?
ivanzaharov [21]
White people were apprehensive about the African-American soldiers. They didn't think that the soldiers were that good as soldiers since they didn't serve in a military and were new to all of the things in war. They also didn't consider themselves to be equal to them since they were white and the people in question were still African-American.

Some attitudes changed and some didn't. Although most of them still remained racists according to our contemporary understanding of the world, they did appreciate the african-american effort in the war since the african-americans worked hard and fought for the union and helped them win the war.
