Other colonists and Europeans also owned plantations here, especially in the Caribbean, for example, Dutch, English, and Sephardic Jews. Sugar became one of the biggest parts of the economy for the Caribbean until the 20th century, and Brabardso was the sugar capital. African slaves worked at these plantations all until the abolition of slavery.
