NARA [144]

Tolkien's theory about poor reflections matches with what the Bible teaches about sin and our fallen world. Tolkien states that since humans are inherently sinful, we tend to reflect God poorly.

According to James 3:2, "For we all stumble in many ways, and if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body". Due to our sinful nature, humans are not perfect, whereas God is.

According to Joshua 1:9, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go". Everyone knows Christians should always be tough and courageous, but the sinfulness of the world constantly puts this to the test and may sometimes lead us wrong when we most require God.

Who is Tolkien?
