Explanation:

La ecuación química balanceada para la combustión del hidrocarburo propano (C₃H₈) es la siguiente:

C₃H₈ + 5 O₂ → 3 CO₂ + 4 H₂O

Por lo tanto, 1 mol de C₃H₈ produce 3 moles de CO₂. Para convertir las moles a gramos usamos el peso molecular (PM) de cada compuesto:

PM(C₃H₈)= (3 x 12 g/mol C) + (8 x 1 g/mol H) = 44 g/mol

masa de C₃H₈ = 1 mol x 44 g/mol = 44 g

PM(CO₂) = (1 x 12 g/mol C) + (2 x 16 g/mol O) = 44 g/mol

masa de CO₂ = 3 mol x 44 g/mol = 132 g

Ahora podemos ver que se producen 132 gramos de CO₂ (3 moles) a partir de 44 gramos de C₃H₈ (1 mol) ⇒ 132 CO₂/ 44 g C₃H₈

Multiplicamos la relación estequiométrica por la cantidad de propano que tenemos para calcular la cantidad de CO₂ producida:

40 g C₃H₈ x 132 CO₂/ 44 g C₃H₈ = 120 g CO₂

Entonces, se producen 120 gramos de dióxido de carbono al quemar 40 gramos de hidrocarburo C₃H₈.
