Okay so first let’s bring the variables to one side and the constants on the other side of the equal sign. (Remember that the sign changes for every coefficient/variable/constant.):

3b + b = -5 + 1 + 12

Add like terms:

4b = 8

Now you have to both sides by 4 considering that’s the biggest number 4 and 8 are divisible by:

b = 2

Your solution is b = 2

Two different types of tea are sold in your store. If you know 100 cups of tea were sold and one type sold 5 times as much as th
LiRa [457]

The answer can not be found from the given information

Step-by-step explanation:

Two different types of tea are sold in your store

 • You know 100 cups of tea were sold
 • One type sold 5 times as much as the other type

We need to find how much of each type of tea were sold

Assume that the two types are x and y

∵ x represents one type of tea

∵ y represents the other type of tea

∵ 100 cups of tea where sold

- Add x and y, then equate the sum by 100

∴ x + y = 100 ⇒ (1)

∵ x type is 5 times as much as y type

∴ x = 5y ⇒ (2)

Now we have a system of equations to solve it

Substitute x in equation (1) by equation (2)

∴ 5y + y = 100

∴ 6y = 100

- Divide both sides by 6

∴ y = 16.67

But you know number cups must be whole numbers

The number cups can be 102 OR one type is 4 times as much as the other type

If the number of cups is 102, then

85 cups of one type and 17 cups of the other type were sold

If one type is 4 times as much as the other type, then

80 cups of one type and 20 cups of the other type were sold

The answer can not be found from the given information

Spencer spent four hours doing chores over the weekend. If he spent 2/3 of an hour for each chore how many chores did he do?
Nadya [2.5K]
6 chores (because 4 hours is 240 minutes and 2/3 of an hour is 40 minutes, so you would divide them. Then you would get 240 divided by 40 and the answer would be 6. So Spencer would have done 6 chores)
