We need to know if the person next to us is someone to be afraid of, if it is a competitor, if it is somebody who will be a burden or if they will disturb the equilibrium in our group. This assessment is an ongoing process and at the end it is why the stigmatization occurs. Stigma is the disapproval or discrimination of people based on traits that distinguish them from other members of society. The most common stigma is due to culture, race, illness and disease.
