The poem portrays the difficulty of the poor, black and oppressed to achieve the American dream and to live in a constant state of lack of freedom and good quality of life, even in America where these elements are preached as available to everyone. The poet makes a strong criticism, such as the situation in which the poor and blacks are left in the country and how there is a government and social conspiracy for the poor to continue suffering, even though it is an imposing part of the country.

The democratic party was dominant in Texas because there were more lower seats than there were upper seats in the house. Since there were more lower seats the democratic party was more dominant because the more votes casts is what gets over ruled. They weren't very organized because they didn't have anything planned, and when it came to voting, they weren't sure what to do
