The great depression is remembered for causing great factory closures and high unemployment, and we are looking for what is NOT the direct result. B is possible. The amendment which later repealed prohibition was mostly attributed to the fact that it had failed. Crime was worse (mobs and mobsters like al capone), people drank anyway, and the government could not practically enforce it. I suppose you could say that the government no longer had the money to enforce it by the end because of the depression, but the government was struggling in that long before the stock market crashed in '29. I would go with D, as it fits best.
