So first you need to find a formula for who has what!

Because nobody said what chase had, chase is our variable!

Chase = x
Sophie = x-6 (six less than Chase so subtraction)
Jonah = x•3 (three times the amount of Chase)

Now you will put all of this in an equation- adding everybody together! The total is 89 so that will be what’s after the equal sign!

Your equation: x+x-6+x•3=89

First you will use PEMDAS, since there are no parentheses or exponents- you’ll do multiplication first!

x+x-6+(x•3)=89
When you multiply that out, you will be left with: x+x-6+3x=89

Second you will add all common terms! Remember- the 3x means there are THREE x’s in that one spot. Take out all x’s in the equation and add them together!

x+x+3x=5x

Now you are left with:
5x-6=89

Now you will solve this like a regular equation! First, you have to move the -6 to the right so you will do the inverse operation (the opposite sign) and add 6 to both sides! 89+6 is 95 and -6+6 is 0, so the 6 on the left cancels out and isn’t there anymore!

Now you have 5x=95. To get the x by itself, you will divide both sides by 5! (Once again, doing the inverse operation! Since 5 and x are being multiplied, you have to divide.)

When you divide, you are left with x=19. In this question, the answer is:

Each person has $19.

State the property that justifies the statement: If 4x + 9 = 15 and X=2y + 1,
GREYUIT [131]

Answer:

Substitution property of equality

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

4x + 9 = 15 and x = 2y + 1

Then

4(2y + 1) + 9 = 15

Required

State the property

From the list of options, (d) answers the question.

This is so because:

Substitution property of equality states that

If a = b then b = a

In other words, both can replace one another.

So if x = 2y + 1, then 2y + 1 can be substituted for x in 4x + 9 = 15

So:

4x + 9 = 15 becomes

4(2y + 1) + 9 = 15

Hence, it is substitution property of equality

Mrs. Welch and her 5 children are shopping at a local grocery store. Each of the children will be allowed to select one box of c
lara [203]

Answer: 462

==================================================

Explanation:

Let's call the children A, B, C, D, E for the sake of simplicity. Also, let's have the children select in alphabetical order.

 • Child A has 11 choices to pick from.
 • Child B has 10 choices to pick from
 • Child C has 9 choices to pick from
 • Child D has 8 choices to pick from
 • Child E has 7 choices to pick from

We started at 11 and counted down by 1 until we had all the children selecting.

Multiply out these values: 11*10*9*8*7 = 55440

There are 55440 different permutations possible. If order mattered, then we would stop here. However, order does not matter because the cereals aren't ranked and their position doesn't matter. All that matters is what fills the grocery cart. In other words, imagine the kids jumbling up the boxes as they push around the cart, so the order would be irrelevant.

Consider a group of 5 items. There are 5! = 5*4*3*2*1 = 120 different ways to arrange the five items in this group. So for any 5 cereals picked, there are 120 ways to order them. But again, order doesn't matter, so we have to correct for this over-counting. We do this by dividing by 120

55440/120 = 462

------------------

If you want to use a formula, then plug n = 11 and r = 5 into the combination formula below and simplify.

n C r = (n!)/(r!(n-r)!)

11 C 5 = (11!)/(5!*(11-5)!)

11 C 5 = (11!)/(5!*6!)

11 C 5 = (11*10*9*8*7*6!)/(5!*6!)

11 C 5 = (11*10*9*8*7)/(5!)

11 C 5 = (11*10*9*8*7)/(5*4*3*2*1)

11 C 5 = 55440/120

11 C 5 = 462

We get the same answer.
