Area of left rectangle:

Length = 36 ft

Width  = 8

Area1 = length * width

         = 36 * 8

        =  288 square feet

Area of right rectangle:

Length = 15 ft

Width = 22 - 8 = 14 ft

Area2 = 15 * 14

          = 210 square feet

Area of the figure = Area1 + area2

                            = 288 + 210

                            = 498 square feet
