The parabolic arch of a bridge over a one-way road can be described by the equation y = -x^2 + 6, where x and y ar emeasured in
Vladimir [108]
So check the picture below

if we check the solutions or zeros for the equation, we get \bf y=-x^2+6\implies 0=-x^2+6\implies x=\pm \sqrt{6}

and as you can see in the picture, the value of "x" when y = 3.5, or the height of the truck is  \bf y=-x^2+6\implies 3.5=-x^2+6\implies x=\pm \sqrt{2.5}

the truck, ends up with a clearance of \bf \sqrt{2.5}-1.5 on either side, so, the maximum clearance, the truck can have, those two clearances added together, \bf 2(\sqrt{2.5}-1.5)

xz_007 [3.2K]

Answer:

To make a profit of at least $500 she must sell at least 12 necklaces

Step-by-step explanation:

Joyce rented a booth at a carnival at a cost of $95 to sell handmade beaded necklaces. The cost of making and packaging each beaded necklace was $15. If Joyce sells the beaded necklaces at $35 each then we have to find beaded necklaces she sell to make a profit of at least $500.

The costs side of the equation, we have:

Let no. of necklaces that she sell are x

∴ The cost of making and packaging x beaded necklace is $15x

Total Cost = 95+15x

Now, Joyce sells the beaded necklaces at $35 each. Therefore, selling price will be $35x

To make a profit of at least $500 the equation can be written as

95+15x+500\leq35x

595\leq50x

⇒ x\geq11.9=12

Hence,  to make a profit of at least $500 she must sell at least 12 necklaces

Suppose f(x)=x^2.What is the graph of g(x)=f(5x)?
ZanzabumX [31]

Answer:

D

Step-by-step explanation:

g(x)=f(5x)

this means plugging in 5x for x in f(x):

g(x)=f(5x)=(5x)^2

which can be further simplified:

5^2x^2=25x^2

Since the coefficient of x being larger means a vertical stretch, the answer is D

example:

g(2)=f(5*2)=f(10)=f(10^2)=100

so for g(x), it has the coordinates (2,100), which is most definitely not C

Compute Δy and dy for the given values of x and dx = Δx. (Round your answers to three decimal places.) y = ex, x = 0, Δx = 0.4
kobusy [5.1K]

Answer:

0.492

Step-by-step explanation:

According to the given situation,  the calculation of Δy and dy is shown below:-

y = e^x, x = o, \Delta x = 0.6

dy = f'(x) = e^x

dy = e^x dx

= e^x (0.4)

dy = 0.4e^x

\Delta y = f(0.4) - f(0)

= e^{0.4} - e^0

Now we use the scientific calculator or spreadsheet to determine the exponential value

= 1.491824698  - 1

= 0.491824698

or

= 0.492

Therefore for computing the  Δy and dy we simply applied the above formula.

Hence, the answer is 0.4918
