Answer:

x = 18 y = 10

Step-by-step explanation:

let the first number be x

let the second number be y

x = y + 8..... equation 1

2x + y = 46.... equation 2

x is the larger number

y is the smaller number.

Rearrange the equation and add equation 1 to equation 2.

x - y = 8

+ 2x + y = 46

-------------------

3x + 0 = 54

3x = 54

divide both sides by 3

x = 54/3

x = 18

Substitute x = 18 into equation 1

x = y + 8

18 = y + 8

collect like terms

y = 18-8

y = 10

The area of a square rug is 81 square feet. if the rug is 9 feet. what is the perimeter?
sasho [114]
First, we know the formula to find the area of a square is A=s^2 where s= side length. Since we have the area, we can solve for s: 81=s^2. To solve for s, you would take the square root of both sides to get s=9. Then, we know the formula for the perimeter of a square is P=s*4. Since we now have s, we can solve for P: P=9*4 or P=36 feet which is the final answer.

Find an equation in standard form for the hyperbola with vertices at (0,plus or minus 6) and asymptotes at y= (plus or minus 3/5
antoniya [11.8K]

Answer:

\frac{(y)^2}{36}-\frac{(x)^2}{100}=1

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Vertices of Hyperbola : (0 ± 6) or (0,6) and (0,-6)

and asymptotes at y= (±3/5)x 0r y= 3/5 x and y=-3/5 x

The vertices are of vertical hyperbola. The equation used will be:

\frac{(y-k)^2}{a^2}-\frac{(x-h)^2}{b^2}=1\\

The Center of hyperbola (h,k) =(0,0)

The Distance from vertices to center is a and a = 6 (given)

For equation we have value of h,k and a and need to find value of b

we know,

y= k ± a/b (x-h)

Values of h and k are zero

y= 0 ± a/b (x-0)

y= (± a/b ) x

We are given asymtotes at y= (± 3/5)x which is equal to y= (± a/b ) x

as a = 6 then b= 10 i.e The simplified form of 6/10 is 3/5 so value of b=10

Putting values of a,b,h and k in equation we get,

\frac{(y-0)^2}{(6)^2}-\frac{(x-0)^2}{(10)^2}=1\\\\\frac{(y)^2}{36}-\frac{(x)^2}{100}=1

What is the mean absolute deviation of the data set? {12, 4, 30, 16, 18}
LiRa [457]
12 + 4 + 30 + 16 + 18 = 80
80 ÷ 5 = 16

16-12=4
16-4=12
30-16=14
16-16=0
18-16=2

4 + 12 + 14 + 0 + 2= 32
32 ÷ 5 is 6.4

YOUR ANSWER IS 6.4
