The Constitution is considered <em>ever-developing.</em> Article V was included in the original Constitution in order to allow <em>changes or amendments</em> that are deemed important in order to <u>adapt to the changing demands of the public</u> and <u>to rectify some provisions that are inadequate.</u> This process allows the<em> regulation of the government's frame in the nation. </em>However, amendments require a <em>certain consensus.</em> This process ensures that it's not too easy nor too difficult to amend a provision. Having a consensus <u>prevents short-sighted decisions.</u>
What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention for proposing needed amendments to the Constitution.
