3. What advantages did European societies have over African societies in the 1400s and

History

Explanation:

Access to commodities such as fabrics, spices, and gold motivated a European quest for a faster means to reach South Asia. It was this search that led the Portuguese down the coast of West Africa to Sierra Leone in 1460. Due to several technological and cultural advantages, Portugal dominated world trade for nearly 200 years, from the fifteenth to the sixteenth century. While in the fifteenth century the rest of Europe was decimated by the Black Plague, Portugal was protected by its physical isolation. Additionally, Portugal had an unusually strong national identity, due to its natural geographic borders, allowing the pooling of the considerable economic resources necessary to fund these ambitious explorations. Additionally, Portugal’s extended contact with Islam, and therefore with its superior mathematical knowledge and sailing technologies, including sail shapes, hull designs, and maritime weaponry, resulted in a Portuguese fleet capable of negotiating the high Atlantic seas.

As a consequence, most of the West African coast was explored in the period from 1415 into the 1600s. Preserved maps from this period show a remarkably accurate understanding of the complicated coastline. African exports consisted primarily of gold, ivory, and pepper. However, more than 175,000 slaves were also taken to Europe and the Americas during this period. In 1600, with the involvement of the Dutch and English, the magnitude of the slave trade grew exponentially.

mina [271]

Answer:

Part A

They possessed ships that were incapable of withstanding the perilous storms.

Part B

They may engage in commerce with the people they meet and unearth fresh treasures. They may not see anything, but when their men return unharmed, they will have lost nothing, their men will be able to provide insight into what they observed, and they will not have to construct more ships since none were lost.

Part C

Even before you go out on your journey, you face grave peril. When you receive a royal summons, however, you may sail into seas you've never seen before or discover new water sources. Additionally, there is a possibility that you may get disoriented, at which point you may be unable to return home. Another issue with these trips is that almost everyone who was anybody believed in a right to the finish.

The Portuguese people also believed in legendary water animals such as Water Unicorns, Sea Monsters, Serpents, Rocks, and so on. They thought that Satan created the sea and tainted its waters. They believed that Satan's hand would emerge from the water, enraged, and strike their ship down, either for no reason or because they were wicked miners who deserved to go to hell.

I give myself a four on a scale of one to five. I really like writing, so this was a simple learning experience for me. Due of this dread, people in the 1400s did not want to be on a boat, and if they were, they didn't know whether they could return home.
