Answer:

Fred is 26 and Natalie is 12

Step-by-step explanation:

X= Fred's age

Y= Natalie's age

x+y=38

x+4y=74

Use the first equation and isolate the variable x to one side.

x+y=38

 -y= -y

x=38-y

Now use this equation and subsitute it into the second equation.

(38-y) + 4y = 74

Simplify to find y

38+3y=74

-38     =-38

3y=36

÷3   ÷3

y= 12

Now that we know y, input it into the second equation to find x.

x+12=38

  -12   -12

x= 26

Fred is 26 and Natalie is 12

hope this helps :)

Paul's car will go 49 kilometers on 7 tanks. Paul wants to know how fuel efficient the car is. Please help by computing the rati
alisha [4.7K]

Answer:

7 : 1

Step-by-step explanation:

Paul's car goes 40 kilometers on 7 tanks.

Distance    :     Tanks

     49        :         7

Fuel efficiency means the distance traveled by the car in one tank.

Therefore, we will reduce the ratio by dividing both sides by 7.

Distance    :     Tanks

    \frac{49}{7}           :         \frac{7}{7}

    7            :         1

Therefore, car's fuel efficiency is 7 kilometers in one tank or the ratio between Distance traveled and fuel tanks is 7 : 1.

Find the last number of the following series
trasher [3.6K]

The answer is 4) 140.

If we closely examine the pattern of the series, we see that after a number is subtracted by a value, it is multiplied by the same value, and then it moves on to the next natural number.

  • 10 - 2 = 8
  • 8 × 2 = 16
  • 16 - 3 = 13
  • 13 × 3 = 39
  • 39 - 4 = 35

The next step, according to the pattern, would be to multiply 4.

  • 35 × 4
  • 140

Given that 1 x2 dx 0 = 1 3 , use this fact and the properties of integrals to evaluate 1 (4 − 6x2) dx. 0
Debora [2.8K]

So, the definite integral  \int\limits^1_0 {(4 - 6x^{2} )} \, dx= - 74

Given that

\int\limits^1_0 {x^{2} } \, dx = 13

We find

\int\limits^1_0 {(4 - 6x^{2} )} \, dx

<h3>Definite integrals </h3>

Definite integrals are integral values that are obtained by integrating a function between two values.

So, Integral \int\limits^1_0 {(4 - 6x^{2} )} \, dx

So, \int\limits^1_0 {(4 - 6x^{2} )} \, dx = \int\limits^1_0 {4} \, dx - \int\limits^1_0 {6x^{2} } \, dx \\=  4[x]^{1}_{0}    - \int\limits^1_0 {6x^{2} } \, dx \\=  4[x]^{1}_{0}    - 6\int\limits^1_0 {x^{2} } \, dx \\= 4[1 - 0]    - 6\int\limits^1_0 {x^{2} } \, dx\\= 4[1]    - 6\int\limits^1_0 {x^{2} } \, dx\\= 4    - 6\int\limits^1_0 {x^{2} } \, dx

Since

\int\limits^1_0 {x^{2} } \, dx = 13,

Substituting this into the equation the equation, we have

\int\limits^1_0 {(4 - 6x^{2} )} \, dx = 4 - 6\int\limits^1_0 {x^{2} } \, dx\\= 4 - 6 X 13 \\= 4 - 78\\= -74

So, \int\limits^1_0 {(4 - 6x^{2} )} \, dx= - 74
