What is the solution of the equation (x – 5)2 + 3(x – 5) + 9 = 0? Use u substitution and the quadratic formula to solve.
Vitek1552 [10]
(X-5)2+3(X-5)+9 = 0
let expand the equation
(x)x2-(5)x2 + 3(x)-3(5) + 9 = 0
2x-10+3x-15+9=0
collect like terms
2x+3x-10-15+9 =0
5x-10-6 =0
5x-16=0
5x=0+16
5x=16
divide both side by 5 we have
x=16/5

You deposit $175 in an account that pays 4% interest compounded quarterly. How much will you have in the account after 2 years?
melomori [17]

\bf ~~~~~~ \textit{Compound Interest Earned Amount} \\\\ A=P\left(1+\frac{r}{n}\right)^{nt} \quad \begin{cases} A=\textit{accumulated amount}\\ P=\textit{original amount deposited}\dotfill &\$175\\ r=rate\to 4\%\to \frac{4}{100}\dotfill &0.04\\ n= \begin{array}{llll} \textit{times it compounds per year}\\ \textit{quarterly, thus four times} \end{array}\dotfill &4\\ t=years\dotfill &2 \end{cases}

\bf A=175\left(1+\frac{0.04}{4}\right)^{4\cdot 2}\implies A=175(1.01)^8\implies A\approx 189.50

coldgirl [10]
3/4 - 2/3

3/4 × 3 = 9/12
2/3 × 4 = 8/12

9/12 - 8/12 = 1/12

Tom's score is 1/12 because in order to find his score, you'll have to subtract. So you have to subtract 3/4 - 2/3 but you can't subtract it since they don't have a common denominator. What you have to do to find the common denominator is to find the least common denominator by finding a multiple of 4 and 3. I know that 4 × 3 = 12 and 3 × 4 = 12, so that is gonna be my denominator. Now, we just have to multiply 3/4 by 3 and 2/3 by 4 and we have the answers of 9/12 and 8/12. Now I can subtract. 9/12 - 8/12 is gonna equal 1/12. This shows how I got my answer of 1/12.
